Drip irrigation method is the latest method of irrigation. In this method water and fertilizer are slowly and directly applied to the direct root zone of the plant in order to minimize the evaporation and seepage losses of water. This method of irrigation is also known as trickle irrigation. It is especially designed emitters and drippers are used for this purpose. This method is best suitable for row crops and orchards such that tomato, grapes, sweet corn, cauliflower, cabbage etc.
Advantage of Drip irrigation
There are following advantage of (Drip) trickle irrigation method-
Water requirements is minimal.
Evaporation loss are closed to negligible.
Highest rate of vegetation growth is achieved in this method.
Soil surface is least weighted and hence occurrence of disease due to dampness decrease.
No land levelling is required.
no soil erosion takes place.
Less labours are required to operate the entire system.
Disadvantage of drip irrigation method
There are following disadvantage of (Drip) Trickle irrigation method-
Plastic pipes for drippers make it attacked by the road names.
Does not offer Frost protection needs regular flushing and supervision.
High skill is required in the design installation and operation and also maintenance.
