5 Strategies for Navigating Water Logging: Turning Challenges into Success

Explore the Factor affecting and controlling the water logging:

Water Logging

Water logging is a phenomenon in which productivity of land gets affected due to rise in water table thus leading to the flooding of the root zone of the plants.

In this process the productivity of land gets affected by the rising water table which flooding in the rootzone of the plants.

Factors of water logging:

There are some factors of water logging which are given below.

Inadequate surface drainage:

A drainage system provides the path of surplus water for traveling to the reservoir. When not provide a adequate drainage system, it means that water have no path to flow in fixed direction from source to reservoir. So water gets flooding the area and it is cause of water logging.

Seepage from canal System:

When we are not lining the canal or drainage system it means that a certain amount of water seeping out from canal system and flooding the root zone of the plants. It is main cause of waterlogging.

Over irrigation of field:

When land get over irrigated it means that water flooded the root zone of the plant so that over irrigation is also a cows of waterlogging

Apart from that which is mention above, Obstructions of natural drainage system, Destruction of natural drainage system and Inadequate capacity of drainage are also cause for Water logging.

Effects of waterlogging:

  • Inhibitison activity of soil bacteria
  • Decrease in available capillary water.
  • Fall in soil temperature.
  • Rise in level of salt in the surface soil.
  • Delay in cultivation operation.
  • Growth of wild flora
  • Adverse effect of community health.

Controlling of water logging:

There are following methods which used for controlling of waterlogging problem.

  • Lining of canal and water courses.
  • Reducing the intensity of irrigation.
  • Optimum use of water.
  • Provision of inter accepting drains along the canal.
  • Provision of efficient drainage system.
  • By applying the crop rotation method in the best way.
  • Depleting groundwater storage by pumping.
